Learn our story, from the beginning and into the future.
Ever since we opened our gates we have approached life (and death) differently. While some just see the end of a loved one’s life as a time for grief and mourning, we prefer to think of it as a time for reflection, appreciation and even celebration. This is evident in everything we do, from the way we conduct our services to the amenities we choose to offer. We are not a burial ground. We are a close knit community dedicated to honoring, sharing and preserving the amazing and inspirational stories that are life.
Why Us?
In a nutshell? Experience, professionalism, compassion, and empathy.
We've learned a lot over many years. Like how to present options without overwhelming. And how to meet the needs of many caring parties. People come to us in difficult times, and we respond kindness, calmness and expertise. Our goal is to create a beautiful occasion and make you feel welcome, always. We spend our days planning with families. We stay up to date with industry developments. And we make hard times a little easier.
Learn the legacy.
Hennessey Heights Funeral Home & Cremation Service has a rich history in the community dating back many years. Richard "Dick" Nimmo started his own funeral service in 1962 in Hasbrouck Heights (Madison Ave & Boulevard) and in 1980, Scott Nimmo joined his father in funeral service. After years of hard work and dedication to funeral service, Scott acquired the Hennessey-Powell Funeral Home in 2006. Soon after, the name was changed to Hennessey Heights Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
In 2012, Scott's nephew Matthew Connors, life long resident of Hasbrouck Heights, joined the family business. Two families that have grown up in the community have the understanding of providing compassionate care and exceptional service to families in their time of need.
Who We Are
Meet our staff. Members of the local community make everything that happens possible. Together, we make this place amazing.
Matt grew up in Hasbrouck Heights and is a 2007 graduate of Hasbrouck Heights High School. He led the baseball team to their first sectional baseball title. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Rutgers University in 2011 (where he played baseball) and earned his Associate's in Mortuary Science from American Academy McAllister Institute in 2012. He earned his MBA in strategic management from Rutgers University in 2016. After becoming a licensed funeral director in 2012, Matt has shown the ability to connect with families in a way that many others can't. He still lives in Heights with his wife Amanda and their four children. You can see Matt walking on the Boulevard with his family, on the baseball/sports fields coaching, picking the kids up from school or volunteering at the many organizations in town.
Matt is a parishioner of the First Reformed Church of Hasbrouck Heights, Hasbrouck Heights High School Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee (2018, baseball), Rutgers University-Newark Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee (2018, baseball), a member of the National Funeral Director's Association and the Bergen County Funeral Director's Association.
