Jean N Vaubourg
April 3, 1920 - February 7, 2018
Jean Nicolas Vaubourg was born April 3, 1920, in Jersey City. She married Edmond Vaubourg of Hasbrouck Heights in 1945, and the two settled in Wood-Ridge, where they raised two daughters. Very few things in Jean’s home went to waste; aspirin bottles became cinnamon shakers and band-aid boxes became piggy banks. Styrofoam cups were emblazoned with her grandchildren’s initials (usually in bright red nail polish), assuring they would not be thrown away after only one use. Other, less material things like tenderness, compassion, and devotion to the ones she loved, she made available in limitless amounts. Jean also had a talent for having fun, and her home was a place for Old Maid, roller-skating in the basement, dying Easter eggs, and sleepovers. Even drying the dishes, shaking out the tablecloth after dinner, and learning multiplication were fun. Though an avid reader, traveler, beach-goer, and theatre buff, Jean loved nothing more than time spent with family over a glass of wine, as pots and pans bubbled contentedly on a nearby stove. Jean died February seventh, at the age of 97. She is survived by her two daughters, Linda Elrick and husband Alan Elrick, of South Burlington, Vermont, and Ann Vaubourg of Hillsdale, four devoted grandchildren: Kristin Deleasa of Park Ridge, Andrew Elrick and wife Andrea of Jersey City, Amy Hayes and husband Patrick Hayes of Denver, North Carolina, and Kerry Salah and husband Dr. Zuhair Salah of Glen Rock, as well as seven adoring great-grandchildren; Madison, Edmond, Jessica, Luke, Vincent, Elizabeth, and Bryson.
