I was a law school classmate of Dave's and we worked together on some matters when I lived in Texas. I just learned of his passing from my Law School Magazine. It is very sad. I just wanted to say that the memorial for Dave was beautiful.It was wonderful to hear others speak of him in the same way I always knew Dave to be. He WAS truly respected and loved for just the person he was- sincere,loving,kind,generous and selfless. I am honored to know David as he was a wonderful attorney and as a friend and brother firefighter. I just spoke to him the other day as he would always be available for any questions and advice. I will miss speaking to him as he would always make me laugh. I will never forget when he called me one day and it was over 100 degrees out and he noticed I was sounding tired as I just returned from fighting a fire and he called me about a business I was buying. He said he would handle everything and to relax as he knew how I felt. The world is at a loss with David’s passing. A Service will be held for Dave on Saturday 1/21/2012 at Saint John the Divine Church in HH Corner Terrace & Jefferson at 10:30 AM 201-288-0002, followed by a reception at the Church Hall, ending 3PM. The family suggests that a donation be made to the Church's "Kids on the Corner" recreational program, in lieu of flowers. We are all very deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Dave. On Saturday we will at once mourn the tragic loss of a great friend, as well as celebrate and remember a life well lived by a person who served as an example for us all. David was the quintessential Attorney. My sincerest sympathy to the entire Van Dam family and also to his devoted legal assistant, Estela.
