Anne Lee Carter Haberer's Obituary
Anne Lee Carter Haberer, daughter, sister, mother, friend and
teacher, died peacefully at home after a long illness on
8/14/2021.
She was born at home in Kilmarnock, Va., on
11/14/1927. Her parents were Helen Barnes Carter and Ray Pierce
Carter. She grew up on a farm where she learned to love the
outdoors. She graduated from Westhampton College of the
University of Richmond. A proud daughter of the Northern Neck of
Virginia she was noted for her distinctive accent. She loved
being outdoors: hiking, skiing, gardening including the never-
ending weeding. She even enjoyed shoveling snow. She had a
special relationship with trees and rocks.
She served as an elementary school teacher for 31 years in Nanuet
Public Schools. Teaching gave her an opportunity to explore and share nature, music, science and the arts. She had a limitless enthusiasm for lifelong learning, reading, outdoor activities and enjoyed traveling after retirement. She enjoyed square dancing with her husband and even tried belly dancing. She had a quirky sense of humor and was loyal friend and, she was a Lady.
She volunteered through her church and community throughout her
life. She was a devoted member of P.E.O., a philanthropic women’s
organization supporting educational needs of women. She was also
a member of The Carter Society.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Frederick William Kraft and
John Haberer. She delighted in her children, many grandchildren
and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters Catherine Kraft and Barbara K.
Todd (Charlie). Her children-in-love, via John, include Tobi
Doty, Beth Beale (Rev Norman Beale), Rev Jack Haberer (Barbie),
Geoff Haberer (Peggy). She leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 8
great grandchildren.
An intimate bedside service/memorial was held shortly after Anne’s death.
She was cremated and she will return home. A graveside memorial
will be held the at Morattico Baptist Church in Kilmarnock at a
later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages contributions to be given in her memory to P.E.O. if donations are made to PEO please note that Anne Haberer was a member of Chapter AD/NJ l so the chapter can receive credit for memorials in Anne's name.
