Georgette Carey Prince's Obituary
Georgette Carey Prince was born on July 23, 1956 in Harlem Hospital to loving parents Adele Lorraine Henderson and Cyrus Carey. She is the youngest of two sisters Eugenia Bowens and Alice Bowens, the aunt of Adrianne Washington-Davis & Eric Peterson, cousin of Richard Hamilton, and the grand aunt to many nieces and nephews. While attending Brandeis High School, at the age of 17, she married Michael Prince, moved to New Jersey, and gave birth to her daughter Lavie Quashie. She became the grandmother of Sade Quashie at the age of 47. She also became the mother to Latoya Prince-Brown, Michael Prince Junior as well as a grandmother to Latoya’s four children. She briefly attended Dover Business School and volunteered to work as a nursing assistant in a New Jersey hospital. Georgette also spent several years working as a secretary at Christian Homes for Children. In addition to being a wife, a loving mother, a grandmother, a sister, a friend, a confidante, and an adoring auntie, one of her greatest joys was praising God. This led her to eventually fulfill her dream of becoming a chaplain. For many years, after suffering from a stroke, and having to reside in a nursing home, we witnessed her love for God and Christ strengthen as she ministered to other residents. She never gave up her joy and the opportunity to pray and lead others to salvation. One of her favorite scriptures is John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” With her love for God, combined with her daughter’s unwavering love and dedication, Georgette would rarely if ever complain. Even when dealing with her challenges, she would always find time to make everyone else feel better and give them hope. Today, we want to honor her for showing us what strength, determination, love, family, and faith in God really looks like. Please let us also remember to say thank you to her daughter, Lavie for standing by her side through it all.
