Ginevra Maria Riggi's Obituary
Ginevra Maria Riggi
1930 - 2022
Ginevra Maria Riggi died Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at the Lillian Booth Actors Fund Home in Englewood, NJ.
She was the daughter of Luigi and Erminia Fonti of Everett, Massachusetts where she was born and educated.
Fiercely independent, Ginevra was the first woman approved for a home mortgage in Salem, Massachusetts where she was a proud homeowner for over fifty years.
Ginevra was employed for over twenty-five years as a Nurse’s Aide at Salem North Shore Hospital until the time of her retirement in 1993. And throughout her life she volunteered in many capacities and was always willing to help out a friend.
Salem and the North Shore always held a special place in Ginny’s heart. She enjoyed going to the local beaches and the sweet treat of the popcorn bars at the Salem Willows. You can still see the brick she donated for the building of the National Park Friendship vessel. Ginevra was a lover and supporter of the performing arts, enjoying many shows at the North Shore Music Theatre and driving into Boston to see shows at the Shubert Theatre. Later in life she was thrilled to see some Broadway shows. She also donated a brick to the Lillian Booth Actors Fund home.
Ginevra and her brother Rocco moved to New Jersey in 2006 to live with her daughter Gina. She remained living at home until the last weeks prior to her passing.
She is survived by her daughter Gina Riggi of New Jersey, her son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Jean Riggi of Pleasant Hill, California, her three grandchildren and their spouses, Sarena Riggi, Scott and Samantha Quinlan, Jessica and Sean O’Sullivan and her great grandson Kieran.
She was predeceased by her brothers Rudolph, Robert, Richard, Rocco Fonti and their spouses as well as her beloved friends Katherine Jellison, Mary Flynn, Mary Walsh, and Eileen Chiango.
She was a loving Godmother, Aunt and a friend who will be missed by all who knew her.
