Joseph A. Miklos' Obituary
Joseph A. Miklos was born on April 15th, 1928 in the Hungarian city named Hódmezővásárhely to his mother Gregus Zsofia and father Miklos Martin. His grandmother on his mother’s side raised him and his grandfather took him under his wings. He left at the young age of 16 to join the army during World War II. He studied in the capital Budapest where he met his wife Elizabeth. Near the end of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution they left Hungary and stayed in Vienna for a short time before coming to the United States from Germany. When they arrived they had a sponsor who was an attorney from Danbury, Connecticut. He realized their knowledge, willingness to learn, and yearning to work hard and achieve the American dream. He helped them in their early years to get a good start.
Elizabeth got a job at Barden Corporation and worked there for over 30 years. Joe continued his education at Chicago Technical College where he finished in 1962, gaining his license and MF 4188 as an engineer. He worked at least 30 years at Sonix Corporation eventually becoming the vice president and general manager of engineering and manufacturing. Joe retired in 2007.
Elizabeth was a great cook and loved Joe very much; she spoiled him with her loving care. After retirement, they took many long vacations. Joe and Elizabeth did not forget their roots as they loved Hungary; together they visited twice a year for six weeks at a time. The two also loved gardening, cruising, and swimming in the lake near their Danbury home.
We had 50 years of friendship. Elizabeth passed away on October 10, 2017 at the age of 92 while on vacation in Budapest after a tragic fall. She was cremated and Joe brought her ashes back with him. He lived alone for a year until 2019 when he came to live with us for almost 3 years. After a fall he was cared for at Care One at Wellington—a rehab and long care facility. 3 ½ years later Joe held a high ranking position in Vitézi Rend. His wish was to be buried with his wife. Elizabeth and Joe’s friendship to our parents and to Alex Jr. is appreciated. They were good examples for us. They will be remembered with love. They will be missed. May both of them rest in peace.
Only those die who are forgotten.
