Lance Richard Crooks' Obituary
We gather here today to honor and celebrate the life of Lance Richard Crooks, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on October 28, 1962, in Westmoreland, Jamaica, Lance was the first child of his late father, Byron Crooks, and the second child of his late mother, Joan Reynolds. From the very beginning, he was surrounded by the love of his family, including his older sister, Marvia Myrie, who was there to witness his birth.
Lance spent his early years in Banana Walk, West End, Negril, under the care of his paternal grandmother, Miss Madeline. As he grew, he moved to Kingston, Jamaica, where he lived with his grand-aunt in Waterhouse and attended Waulgrove College, a private high school off Lyndhurst Road. During this time, he reunited with his mother and siblings—Janice, Sean, and Rohan —who lived in Patrick City. He and his brothers, Sean and Rohan, shared a deep love for football, spending countless weekends playing the game they cherished.
Lance’s journey in life was defined by perseverance, dedication, and service. After the passing of his grand-aunt in Waterhouse, he moved to Clarendon, where he worked alongside his father in the family’s construction business. It was during this time that he also reunited with his other siblings Annmarie, Raymond, John, Paul, Byron Jr., and Christine. Further strengthening his family connections. Always willing to help, he also assisted another grand-aunt in Savanna-la-Mar, Westmoreland, with her grocery business. But Lance was destined for a different path—one that required courage, discipline, and commitment to justice.
Determined to serve his country, Lance joined the Jamaica Constabulary Force as part of Batch 85. His training at the police academy in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine, shaped him into a man of integrity and strength. He carried these values with him throughout his 14-year career in law enforcement, earning the respect of his peers and community.
During this time, Lance met his beloved wife, Shirnette Crooks. They welcomed their first child, Lance Richard Crooks Jr., and in 1991, they married, sealing their commitment to one another. Seeking new opportunities for their family, they made the life-changing decision to migrate to the United States.
Lance was a devoted husband and father, leaving behind a legacy in his beloved wife, Shirnette, and their four children: Lance Jr., Lateisha, Gabriella, and Lance III. His greatest joy in life was his family, and he was immensely proud of his children and the lives they built. He was also a cherished grandfather to Laila, Lariya, and John, who brought him endless happiness.
Beyond his dedication to family and service, Lance found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved playing his favorite songs on his speaker and cherished his two pets, Ace and Milo, who were always by his side.
Lance Richard Crooks lived a life of service, love, and resilience. Whether as a policeman, a father, a husband, or a friend, he left an unforgettable impact on those who knew him. He was a man of strong principles, unwavering faith, and a heart full of generosity. Though he has departed this world, his spirit, wisdom, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. Rest in peace, Lance. Your legacy will never be forgotten.
