Marie Rebecca Freeman's Obituary
Marie Rebecca Rankin was born on April 10, 1940 to Rose Winefred Nee Parbati and Carlton Alexus Rankin. She grew up on the beautiful island of Leguan in Guyana, South America along with her siblings Boston, Hugh, Edmond, Aaron, Alma, Ula, and Catherine. Due to the premature passing of her mother she went with her sisters to live with “Big Auntie” also known as Nurse Lillian Wade in Berbice.
In 1958, she moved back to her home village in Leguan and was married to Jaspar George Freeman aka John Freeman in January of 1960. As a result of their union, they were blessed with nine children: Orin, Jasper, Vibert, Ronald, Dawn, Faye, Shawn, Brittie, and John. Marie also had twenty-three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She was a very involved grandmother and often babysitting multiple grandchildren at the same time.
A few years ago, Marie was diagnosed with breast cancer while at the same time, she was coping with other health conditions and challenges. She loved her family very much and rarely complained about her own health despite the challenges she faced. On Monday, April 27th Marie died of heart failure and took her final breath at approximately 7:16pm at Mount Sinai Hospital. Marie will be sorely missed, as her passing has a left an irreplaceable hole in all of our hearts and lives. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jaspar Freeman, her daughter Brittie, her siblings: Boston, Edmond, Ula and her grandson Ian. The legacy of Marie Rebecca Freeman will always remain as the values she instilled in her family will continuously be remembered and lived through each and every day. Let us all remember how she put her family first and valued quality time spent with those she loved. This is one of the best ways to honor her memory and to celebrate the life she was given.
