Mary “Marika” G. Bertos born on July 22, 1923 to Greek immigrant parents, Michael and Vangela E. Skoullos. During the Great Depression her parents decided to return to Greece where Marika was educated. She and her family also remained in Europe during the difficult years of WWII.
She was the beloved wife of the late George J. Bertos, adoring sister to the late Annika G. Economides, late Cleopatra J. Vitalis and the late Mano E. Skoullos. Loving mother to Evangelia G. Dugan, Calliopi G. Bertos, Christos-John Bertos and Michael-Skoullos G,. Bertos and beloved grandmother to Marika Venetia Dugan. Adoring aunt to Eve Bozines, Bella Higgins and Mano Economides and great-aunt to Karvis Anna Higgins and Michael Emmanuel Economides.
Mary had the great fortune to live a full and adventurous life, having traveled and taking up residency on three different continents. She shared ownership of a restaurant with her husband in Baltimore, Maryland during the decade of the 60's. She was also an active member of various Hellenic Philanthropic Organizations.
Noted for her rare artistic talent, progressive ideas and deep religious faith, Marika was a shining example of motherhood. She taught her children to appreciate the finer values of the human spirit, leading by example throughout her life. She cultivated lasting friendships from many nations and will be immensely missed by all who knew her.
