Shirley passed away peacefully on the morning of December 2. She was kept company that morning by Lisa, her Husband Mark Pasechnick and of course her roommate Theresa.
Shirley was born to Helen and Harold Van Alstine in Rome New York July 18, 1925. As a teenager she was moved to Jersey City NJ but her heart was always in “upstate” Rome NY. She graduated Dickenson High School. She later moved to Ridgefield Park where she raised her family. So many of the children and grandchildren of her friends remember Shirley very well and very fondly.
Shirley held various jobs, mostly secretary, and later became a purchasing agent at IPS, mostly dealing with Dassault Falcon Jet where she retired from.
Before her health declined in 2020, Shirley resided at The Westwood House in Westwood NJ for the past 25 years. She entertained mostly every night when her friends would gather in her apartment with a libation of choice and watch Jeopardy as if it was mandatory event.
She was a very active gal in many of the activities and organizations in Westwood. Fifty Plus, Thomas J Riley Center. A very enthusiastic parishioner of St John The Baptist in Hillsdale. She belonged to The Rosary Society, The One Club just to name a few.
Shirley can be described with many adjectives. Pistol, sweet, caring, friendly, loving, snarky, sarcastic, enthusiastic and was a great sport when her daughter played many, many pranks on her. She was a great friend to have and had a heart full of love for her family especially Jenna Pasechnick and Taylor Conti,
Nick’s wife.
She had a great run. And now she can be reunited with her 2 Angel Grandsons Little Jimmie and Anthony Manfredi. Shirley’s wishes were to be cremated. There are no other plans at this time, but family will advise if something changes.
