Stephen Garrand (Gobbo)'s Obituary
GARRAND Stephen R. (Gobbo), 69, of Waldwick, formerly of Moonachie, passed away on February 18th, 2016.
Predeceased by his parents Reginald "Pete" Garrand & Jeanne (nee: Phillips) & Bill Gobbo, brother-in-law Richard Paterson and aunt Dorothy "Toni" Barnett. Survived by his devoted wife Joan Garrand (nee: Paterson). Beloved father to Christopher Garrand and his wife Katya. Adoring grandfather to Stephen Garrand. Loving brother to Doreen Dolci and her husband Bill Bowers & Monique Gobbo. Beloved nephew to Robert “Bob” Phillips. Loving son-in-law to Robert & Eileen Paterson, brother-in-law to Carol (nee: Paterson) & Kevin McCormick, Robert Paterson, Donald Paterson and his wife Jeanne Gunsolus, Jeffrey Paterson and his wife Ewa. Survived by 12 cherished nieces and nephews.
Stephen graduated from Wood-Ridge High School in 1966 and was a proud member of the football team. In 1965, he was one of the top scorers in the State and was named to the 1st team All-League & All-State. He was a member of both the 1963 and 1965 State Champions. Stephen was inducted into the Wood-Ridge High School Hall of Fame in 1990. He attended the University of Wyoming on a football scholarship before graduating from the Police Academy in Sea Girt, NJ. Stephen began his career with the Moonachie Police Department in 1967, made Sergeant in 1973 and was sworn in as Chief of Police in 1981. He worked for 25 years before retiring from the force in 1992.
Stephen loved nature photography, traveling to the Caribbean (especially St. John, USVI), his three golden retrievers, summers in Ocean City, NJ and his red Corvette. He was an avid fan of Jimmy Buffet and Margaritaville. Stephen was a member of the New Jersey Police Honor Legion and Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, having served as Sergeant at Arms, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, 2nd Vice President and Honorary President. He was a wonderful friend and will be missed by so many.
Memorial Service from the Hennessey Heights Funeral Home, 232 Kipp Ave, Hasbrouck Heights on Saturday, March 5th, 2016 from 11am-2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund or Navy Seal Foundation.
