William John Molloy Jr.'s Obituary
William J. Molloy, Jr.
11/13/1964 – 11/2/22
United States Navy
July 12, 1982 - July 11, 1986
William John Molloy, Jr, “Billy” passed away on November 2, 2022. In a brief conversation with a
security guard at Secaucus Junction Station, when asked where he was headed, Billy said, “I’m going home.”
Billy faced challenges over the years, many stemming from a difficult childhood. At the age of 15, he went to live with his father—William, Sr. (Bill). Though neither was fully equipped for this new
arrangement, they cared deeply for one another. Bill’s favorite story, The Velveteen Rabbit, and Billy’s favorite song, “Cats in the Cradle” express an inter-generational connection and longing to love and be loved. Despite a successful tenure in the US Navy, a time during which he felt purpose and pride, Billy struggled to find his path. Physical ailments continued to trouble him, but he always
moved through time and space the best way he knew how.
One thing is certain: His daughter Alyssa was the greatest joy in his life. He was incredibly proud of
her brilliance, her independence, and the vibrant future she is already cultivating for herself. He saw
in her the very best of everything he longed to achieve for himself, and will continue to beam with joy
as she lives her life with happiness and meaning. His heart and soul continues to live on in his
daughter, Alyssa—the brightest light. “When a child loves you for a long, long time... REALLY loves
you, then you become Real." ~The Velveteen Rabbit.
Billy will be interred alongside his father, Bill, Sr. at Holy Sepulchre Roman Catholic Cemetery in Totowa. As they are reunited in spirit, free of pain and earthly burdens, we can imagine their loving embrace, as Cat Stevens plays, “…we’ll get together then. You know we’ll have a good time then.”
