William Joseph Single's Obituary
William J. Single, 89, of Maywood, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 2, 2021.
He was the adoring son of William and Gertrude Single and beloved son in law of Lillian Fasano.
Bill was born and raised in the Bronx, NY. He was an Army Veteran and served during the Korean War. In 1957, he married Lillian Fasano. They were married for 60 “fun filled, action packed” years. His incredible mechanical talent earned him the nickname “MacGyver” and “Inspector Gadget”. There was nothing that he could not fix. His brilliant mind and this special talent were the reason that he had a successful career as a Tool & Die maker and a machinist for 3M, Kirshner Medical, Biomet and HK Metalcraft.
Bill was an avid fisherman. He proudly built a cabin cruiser with his father and enjoyed spending time boating with his parents and brothers in law in Shinnecock Bay, LI and vacationing in Keansburg, NJ. He enjoyed tinkering around his garage & working on projects at his work bench. He was a James Bond fan and enjoyed bike riding, astronomy, and all things scientific and mechanical. Bill will be remembered for his happy, friendly, and kind demeanor. He always had a smile on his face and had a great sense of humor and loved to be silly and laugh. He was endearing to friends and strangers alike.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian A. Single (2017) and his youngest son, Joseph N. Single (1970). He is the cherished and loving father to son, William Single, and daughters, Laura Single and Kathy Single. He is also survived by his daughter in law, Kim Single, granddaughter, Jennifer Single, and sister-in-law, Leona Fasano.
Bill’s family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff of Valley Hospital for all of their expertise and excellent care for our Dad, right up to his final moments.
Due to covid restrictions, a private interment for immediate family was held. Funeral arrangements were made by Hennessy Funeral Home, Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.
