I only met Betty later in life (both hers and mine). She was my mother's cousin and I only "found" her when I went searching for the family that I was sure I had. We shared a few visits here in the Boston area where I live and on Long Island as she introduced me to so many of the things that she loved. How I wish I had known her earlier in life as we shared many interests, athletic and otherwise. Through our many chats Betty "introduced" me to the family that I never knew I had. She and I did manage to get together once with Mabel. I know you miss her energy and enthusiasm for all things, especially those related to family. With deepest sympathies for your loss, Pat Fleischauer

You have my sympathy on the loss of the apparently vibrant lady honored in the Sag Harbor Express (or was it the East Hampton Star?) . I worked with a Betty Pyne at AT&T in the 1950s-1960s. We were also both skiing enthusiasts. Ironically, I also now live on the East End. There's no mention of your Betty Pyne's career. Is it possible that we worked together at AT&T?

We have lost one of the most fiercely independent and strongest women I've ever known. Trips to the Bronx zoo with Aunt Betty with my sister Nancy and to her beautiful Montauk house in summer are some of my fondest childhood memories. There will never be another person in my life who will fill the gap Aunt Betty leaves behind, but I take solace in the fact that she was alive for and able to shape 30+ years of my life. Rest easy, Aunt Betty.
Betty was my "ski aunt" for whom I have so many warm memories. Claire and Betty were very close and I benefited from just being around their combined energy and love of the sport and other members of the cabin and members of the great NYSC. I will remember her always with family love and special times. (and not as she sadly left us)
My heartfelt sympathy to all her family.
Sincerely, Peter Greene Turner
O there she goes... to just catch the last chair of the day at Jiminy, and a waiting Claire!
The New York Ski Club was saddened to hear of Betty's passing. Perhaps no one other than the founders had a broader or more lasting impact on the club than Betty.
Betty served the club in many positions across decades including as President, Vice President, Member of the Board of Governors and, of course, as Cabin Committee Chair. Though it had been a few years since Betty was last at the cabin, her presence is still felt there - from her interior design choices and her handwritten signs and notes, to the pictures of her enjoying the sport she loved so much. The New York Ski Club will be recognizing Betty in a permanent way at our cabin.
As her nephew I was blessed by her giving and loving ways. I’m thankful to for the many things she has done for me which I never expressed. As she has joined her parents and siblings let us rejoice in our Lord for all she has left us with.
Love her nephew
