Elizabeth Pyne's Obituary
Elizabeth (Betty) Pyne (94), passed away on January 6, 2022 in New Jersey. Betty was born in Newark NJ and was the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth. She is predeceased by her brothers Charles and Albert, and sisters Josephine and Mabel (Mary). She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Betty was raised in Harlem and was a member of St. Paul’s Parish. She also lived in the Bronx and retired in Montauk where she was an active member of St. Therese Lisieux. Betty loved Carnegie Hall, Roundabout Theater, Stephen’s Talkhouse, Guild Hall, and the Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor.
Betty was an avid skier and belonged to the NY Ski Club. She had many adventures that included cross country road trips, bike and walking tours, cruises, international travel and pilgrimages. Betty had a strong faith and believed in giving back.
Betty volunteered with the Double H Camp and Habitat for Humanity. One of her favorite experiences was working alongside Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter for Habitat. Betty had a zest for life and was known fondly by her family as “The Maverick”. She will be missed by her family and friends. Her funeral mass and burial will be held at a later date. She will be interred at Fort Hill in Montauk. Donations may be made to Bowery Mission, St. Jude’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
